ARTIST IN THE ATTIC
Most of my artwork is done in my art studio which is a single room on the top floor of our home ... kind of like the heroine, Mimi, in the opera, La Boheme, a bit romantic. In the past, I primarily worked from photographs because colored pencil was my main medium and it is a very slow and deliberate medium, though it tends to be very calming -- unless you are working against some sort of a deadline. Recently, however, I've been working a lot more with watercolor. I first used watercolor to speed up the art process when using colored pencil. I would include watercolor as a ground or first layer in some of my colored pencil artwork because some of my colored-pencil-only paintings have taken close to 100 hours to complete. Since then, I've been finding joy in creating 100% watercolor-only paintings. They are 180 degrees opposite to working with color pencil. Now, a new update is that I am starting to combine Oil Pastels with colored pencil, using the oil pastels as the first layer. This is a new dimension for me and I am finding it quite exciting.
In addition to my art, together with my husband, I am a very dedicated ballroom dancer. ART and DANCE ... life doesn't get much better than this, plus it is a great way to include exercise in one's life.
